Reduced Ores
⛏️ Reduced Ore Generation
A lightweight datapack that makes your Minecraft world harder to gather resources — just the way it should be.
About
Tired of swimming in diamonds after just a few hours of mining? This datapack reduces the natural spawn rate of every ore by approximately 50%, making resources more precious, exploration more rewarding, and the overall game significantly more challenging and satisfying.
All ore types and all variants are covered — stone, deepslate, buried, large, small — including the Nether.
Features
- Reduces all ore spawn rates by ~50% in both the Overworld and the Nether - Covers every variant of each ore (normal, large, buried, small, deepslate, etc.) - Fully compatible with other datapacks (as long as they don't also modify ore generation) - No commands required — just install and play - Lightweight — no performance impact whatsoever - Free to use in modpacks, servers, and any projects
Affected Ores
Overworld - ⚫ Coal — upper, lower - 🔸 Iron — upper, middle, small - 🟡 Gold — normal, lower/deepslate, extra/badlands - 💎 Diamond — normal, large, buried - 🔵 Lapis Lazuli — normal, buried - 🔴 Redstone — normal, lower/deepslate - 🟠 Copper — normal, large - 🟢 Emerald — normal
Nether - 🟡 Nether Gold Ore - ⬜ Nether Quartz Ore - 🟣 Ancient Debris / Netherite — large, small
Installation
New world 1. Download the .zip file and extract it 2. Place the reduced_ores_datapack folder inside your world's datapacks directory: .minecraft/saves/[YourWorldName]/datapacks/ 3. Create or launch your world — the datapack activates automatically
Existing world 1. Follow steps above 2. Open your world and type /reload in chat 3. Verify it is active with /datapack list — you should see [file/reduced_ores_datapack]
⚠️ Important: Only newly generated chunks will be affected. Already explored areas keep their original ore amounts. For the best experience, use this on a fresh world or explore entirely new areas.
Customization
Want to tweak the reduction? Open any JSON file inside data/minecraft/worldgen/placed_feature/ and adjust the "count" value for that ore. Lower = rarer, higher = more common.

FAQ
Q: I installed the datapack but I still find lots of ores. Why? A: The datapack only affects newly generated terrain. Already explored chunks are not changed. Venture into new, unexplored areas for the full effect.
Q: Is this compatible with world generation mods like Terralith? A: It depends. If the other mod also replaces vanilla ore placed features, there may be conflicts. Test on a fresh world first.
Q: Can I combine this with other datapacks? A: Yes, as long as they don't also override the same ore placed features.
