This mod just changes lava to render translucent like the following:
It does not affect the red overlay you get when in Lava.
NOTE: THIS ALSO USES A CUSTOM TEXTURE SO MAY BREAK WITH TEXTUREPACKS
Added a second version that has a menu that allows adjusting how translucent you want the lava.
