ASCII Shader

## ASCII Shader intends to make Minecraft render only with ASCII characters!
Current features include:

– Color Customisation for, background, dark, and light colors
– Using the in world colors as the text color
– Post proccesing effects like bloom, sharpness, and tonemapping
– Line detection including multiple line detecting modes and performance settings
– Premade color profiles

There is maybe something I want to add to the customizability this (for now at least) should be enough!

If you find any bugs or incompatibilities, you can always report them, it helps me and others out.

### Installation
First you need to install either OptiFine or the Iris mod to be able to load shaderpacks. (Choose Iris if you are unsure)
Then you need to launch the game, and get to the Shaderpacks/Shaders menu in Video Settings.
Open the shaderpacks folder by clicking the button in the menu.
Download the ASCII Shader and put it in the shaderpacks folder.
Get back in the game, and choose ASCII_Shader in the shaderpacks menu. (Refresh the menu if it doesn’t appear)

# ASCII Minecraft Shader

Inspired by Acerola’s video on ASCII art rendering, this shader project aims to recreate the iconic Minecraft visual style using ASCII characters. By translating the game’s visuals into ASCII art, the shader produces a unique and nostalgic aesthetic.

## Features

– **ASCII Rendering**: Converts the Minecraft world into a grid of ASCII characters.
– **Bitmap Font Texture**: Utilizes a bitmap font texture to map characters onto the screen.
– **Color and Black & White Modes**: Supports both colored and black & white rendering modes.
– **Edge Detection**: Integrates edge detection techniques for enhanced visual detail.

## Black & White Mode

In this mode, the shader renders the Minecraft world using only black and white ASCII characters, providing a classic and minimalist look.

## Color Mode

The color mode maintains the vibrant colors of Minecraft while still using ASCII characters to depict the scene, offering a modern twist on the retro aesthetic.

## Implementation Details

– **Fragment Shader**: The core of the shader is implemented in GLSL, where each pixel is mapped to an ASCII character based on its brightness or color value.
– **Bitmap Font Texture**: A 128×128 texture is used to store the bitmap font, with each character occupying an 8×8 pixel block.
– **Edge Detection**: Combines a Difference of Gaussians filter with a thresholded Sobel edge detection filter to enhance the details and edges of the scene before converting to ASCII.

Arc

A shader for Iris & Optifine that aims to providing realistic visuals with very minimal performance loss. Almost every effect/feature can be fine-tuned for the ideal balance between performance and quality. This project is still in beta but will be reaching initial release very soon!

### Resource Packs
Supports LabPBR and OldPBR texture formats; The default setting for materials is “vanilla”, which hard-codes a limited set of PBR material values for the original Minecraft textures.

The recommended resource pack is Patrix; when used make sure to set the shader setting for Material Format to “Patrix”, as it uses a special combination of OldPBR and LabPBR formats.

### Compatibility & Support

Aragorn’s Light Shader

# ARAGORN’S LIGHT SHADER

This is a simple, lightweight shader based on Iris that adds realistic anti aliasing shadows and realistic water and clouds. It is not resource-heavy and is ideal for most users.

IMPORTANT: Kindly disable clouds through ‘Options > Video Settings’ as the shader includes a custom cloud engine.

A customizable Minecraft shaderpack that transforms the game into a polished anime aesthetic. eatures crisp white sticker borders with soft edges, vibrant pastel color grading, and smooth toon shading with configurable cel levels. It includes material-dependent palette corrections for water, sand, and dirt, plus optional glow effects for glowing entities and ore blocks. You can toggle on extra detail to preserve texture clarity, or enable Candy Mode for biome-specifc color boosts on foliage and water. Everything is adjustable from border thickness and opacity to hand-drawn grain and warmth—fully configurable from Minecraft’s shader settings menu.

Allium is an edit of Complementary Unbound focused on bringing my creative vision to life. Emphasizing the beauty in colors and effects, all while staying as performant as it can be. With Allium, I hope to deliver a unique style and aesthetic that pushes my creativity to it’s limits.

v2.0 has received a massive overhaul on it’s overall look, feel and atmospherics. Even though this shader is fairly young and hasn’t received much updates, I began to feel as if the appearance was not going in a direction that I had originally intended. So I’ve spent the past couple of months revisioning what Allium should be, and what should have been. Although it’s not perfect, I have been fairly happy with how it has turned out and wanted to share it with you all. Cheers! 🙂

Beta versions are the most recent builds and are released regularly for public testing. If you encounter any issues, please report them.

Beta Versions here on modrinth are also limited, as they are the most stable build I am able to give out, if you want the most up to date unstable versions for testing you can visit Allium’s Github Page

Releases are stable, polished versions that result from thorough testing and iteration during the in-development phase. These builds are intended for general use and offer the best balance of visuals, performance, and reliability.
