# Light and Shadow

The name says it all: Light and Shadow focuses on the two elements that shape every Minecraft scene — light and darkness.

This shader improves lighting from blocks and the sky, while adding stronger shadow effects through shadow maps, global illumination, and ambient occlusion. The goal is to make Minecraft scenes feel deeper, more atmospheric, and more visually dynamic without losing the familiar look of the game.

## Overview

This shader pack delivers a balanced visual experience with five distinct performance profiles. From minimal-impact POTATO mode for low-end systems to feature-rich ULTRA mode for high-end setups, each profile is carefully tuned to provide optimal visuals without sacrificing playability.

**ULTRA**

– Extreme wave height (2.0x) with full reflection intensity (1.0)

## Water Effects

The shader pack features a sophisticated water rendering system with profile-scaled parameters:

### Wave Height Scaling
– **POTATO**: 0.5x (minimal animation)
– **LOW**: 0.6x (basic movement)
– **MEDIUM**: 1.0x (standard waves)
– **HIGH**: 1.5x (pronounced waves)
– **ULTRA**: 2.0x (extreme wave height)

### Reflection Intensity
– Adjustable from 0.3 (subtle) to 1.0 (maximum reflectivity)

## Installation

1. Download the shader pack ZIP file
2. Place the ZIP file in your Minecraft shaderpacks folder:
– Windows: `%appdata%/.minecraft/shaderpacks/`
– macOS: `~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/shaderpacks/`
– Linux: `~/.minecraft/shaderpacks/`
3. Launch Minecraft with OptiFine or Iris/Oculus installed
4. Navigate to **Options > Video Settings > Shaders**
5. Select the shader pack from the list
6. Click **Done** to apply

### Requirements

– Minecraft 1.16.5 or newer (recommended)
– OptiFine HD U G5 or newer, OR
– Iris Shaders / Oculus (for Fabric/Forge mod loaders)
– OpenGL 4.0 compatible graphics card (minimum)

## Configuration

### In-Game Settings

Access shader settings through:
**Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shader Options**

Select your desired performance profile from the dropdown menu. Changes apply immediately without requiring a game restart.

### Advanced Configuration

For advanced users, edit the `shaders.properties` file located in the shader pack directory:

LBR-Enhanced

## About
A Shaderpack focused on enhancing vanilla.
Uses a stylized lighting model that blends vanilla lighting with dynamic shadows.

This pack is still in development, I will most likely rewrite most features in it, and add more.
It currently has no Options, Weather or Clouds, and the nether and end are not tested.

## Features
– A Stylised lighting model that improves vanilla without changing too much.
– Pixel Perfect PBR Lighting and Dynamic Shadows.
– Improved Water shaders.

## Why
Most Shaderspacks exist on a spectrum, from Vanilla+ packs that don’t do enough, to ones that are impractical for gameplay.
As packs add more features and effects, they tend to focus on things that diverge too much from the base game.
LBR Enhanced has the goal of being a middle-ground pack focused

## Screenshots
I used some extra mods while making the pack, screenshots contain some modded blocks and things.
– Alpine Highlands, Maple Woodlands, and Sugi Forest biomes from Nature’s Spirit.
– The structures are made from Create blocks.
– Bedrock Waters changes water colors, I have disabled both settings on it’s configuration menu.
– PBR Textures are from Embrace Pixels and Create LAB PBR.

## **What is the Kappa Shader?**
A shaderpack that aims towards a realistic, but also authentic look. So it is not plainly using physically accurate vales and equations like many other packs do. Instead, while still using many accurate calculations, it is tweaked to reproduce what you could observe in nature, which usually goes beyond just having equations to describe most phenomenons.

## **What features does it offer?**
* Dynamic soft shadows
* Screen-space path-tracing (SSPT)
* Temporal Anti-Aliasing and Upscaling (TAAU)
* Procedural realistic skybox with multiple cloud layers
* Screen-space reflections and optional offscreen environment reflections (when enabling the reflection capture)
* Volumetric fog
* Random per-day and daytime driven weather parameters controlling clouds and fog
* labPBR resourcepack support
* Various optional lens effects such as depth of field, lens flares and vignette
and many, many more.

## **Any Requirements?**
* Optifine for 1.16 or newer/Iris 1.5.0 or newer
* GTX 1050/RX 560 or similar/better (has to support OpenGL 4.0, something faster than those is recommended though)

Just Colored Lighting

Just Colored Lighting and Dynamic Lights added to a very fast shader for Potato computers, with optional shadows, texture upscaling, and great PBR support (even from block lights). Distant Horizons and Voxy are also supported.

It is the fastest colored lighting shader I could make, and the optional Global Illumination has no fps impact.

Beta versions are not tested on all hardware yet. Please let me know if it works for you, or if you get bugs, on discord.

If you find anything in mods that doesn’t glow right, let me know and I’ll try to add support asap. All modded blocks that are light sources should automatically work, and pbr textures can optionally also turn anything into colored light sources.

concrete can also be optionally turned into colored lights for all your neon light needs.

The shader might work on older versions, I just haven’t tested them so let me know!

Incremental shaders

Incremental Shaders improves various visual aspects of the game through small, progressive enhancements; delivering cleaner lighting, richer colors, and better overall clarity while preserving the original look and feel.

-Shadows with distortion to reduce aliasing
-Day/night cycle with proper darkening and blue-shifted night vision
-Distance fog that gets thicker at night
-Waving grass, flowers, and leaves (fades out at distance)
-ACES tone mapping with a cool blue tint
-Rain and thunderstorm effects (darker, desaturated, foggier)
